Osamu Tezuka’s Inspector Gadget: Dr. Claw Key Image

Dr. Claw aka Duke Red

This is part of a series I’m working on of “what would Inspector Gadget look like if Osamu Tezuka designed it?” Tezuka’s Gadgetverse is a distillation of the cartoon and the live-action movies, hence “Scolex Industries” and Claw’s design.

Basically, Sanford Scolex was one of Claw’s MAD Elite who went to kill his employer and take over. The assassination attempt left Scolex horribly scarred, without a right forearm, blind in his left eye (now a blue electronic eye), and with smoke inhalation-damaged vocal cords.

Upon hearing of Inspector Gadget’s debut, Dr. Claw and his longtime partner-in-crime, robotics expert DR. TENMA, draw their plans to create ROBO-GADGET, an android replica. They will use Robo to discredit Gadget proper and make Metro City a world safe for MAD’s kind of crime.

Dr. Claw’s other friend is MAD Cat, now a Birman Ragdoll.

Sorry for the hiatus, but we’re back! Throwing some stuff in the queue including a few submissions that’s been sitting in the inbox, whoops. Might make some gifs later if I can find my dvds so if anyone has a request for certain clips send it in.

morbart:

Some quick Inspector Gadget scribbles, because I used to watch it all the time when I was little.
I really like the fan theory that Gadget actually used to genuinely be this super-competent inspector before he became a cyborg, but whatever accident destroyed his body also left him brain-damaged in some way, leaving him prematurely senile and incompetent in day-to-day life.
It would definitely explain those rare moments in the original series where he suddenly became WAY more useful when Penny was in danger. Those aren’t him suddenly just becoming competent, but rather, brief flashes of the original Gadget coming out.
I dunno, I just really love the classic cliche of “typically incompetent character suddenly briefly becomes terrifyingly competent,” and want to see it explored more, especially with a character who has as much wasted potential as Gadget usually did.
(My secret dream is that I actually really want to write an Inspector Gadget revival series whoops sorry everyone)

Penny and Brain from Inspector Gadget.  How does any detective solve mysteries without the help of his brilliant niece and her dog?
